Her investigations of the grisly murder of Max Zimmer lead strong-headed detective Anna Göllner into the depths of Frankfurt's red light district, where she meets young psych student Marcus Stromer, claiming to be studying the social life of prostitutes. While Marcus falls in love with her, Anna takes warmly to his melancholy romantic streak, even arranging a meet with her ex-hooker mother which winds up a fiasco. After two more dead bodies turn up, suddenly Marcus finds himself a suspect when he has to concede having known Zimmer. While the evidence seems to point to Marcus, Anna believes in his innocence and is taken off the case. For Marcus is not really studying psychology, neither are his parents dead as he claimed. Anna finally gets him to admit that his story was just a pretext for his search for his real mother, who gave him up for adoption, and who he hopes to track down among the working women of the red light district. Now Anna sets about finding both his mother and the murderer.
